[Munrae Jazz IN #Annual Special] Luke Gillespie Korean Tour Performance
Luke Gillespie, an active American jazz pianist, has served as a professor at the prestigious Indiana University for many years and also performs as a classical musician. Gillespie won first place at the 1994 Indianapolis Jazz Festival Competition and received the best performance award from the Indianapolis Star in 1993. He has performed with world-renowned jazz musicians including Benny Golson, Chris Potter, Arturo Sandoval, and John Patitucci.
Acclaimed as a genius pianist in reharmonizing and recreating standard jazz, his performances showcase a dramatic composition thoroughly grounded in tradition, featuring fantastic piano technique and diverse, modern voicings that have earned him standing ovations from audiences. Making his third visit to Korea this year, he will perform at Munrae Jazz IN, one of his favorite performance venues in Korea, where he will connect with the audience through the grand piano sound he highly praised.
Joining him on stage are top-tier Korean jazz musicians: Yun Hye-jin, a pioneering jazz flutist and Korea's first jazz flute specialist who completed her master's degree in Jazz Studies at the prestigious Indiana University in the U.S., performed in New York, and now maintains a distinctive career; Lae Kyoung-gu, a brilliant saxophonist from the prestigious New School Jazz in America; Kim In-young, a renowned bassist who won the Grand Prize and Soloist Award at the 3rd Jara Island International Competition; and Oh Sang-mok, a drummer from the Royal Conservatoire in the Netherlands, recognized for his refined technique and interplay. Together, they promise to deliver an unforgettable performance.
