[Performance Introduction]
The pronoun "you"—everyone carries in their heart a brilliant "you" that aches with longing. Yet, exhausted by life, we have forgotten the warm or yearning name "you" and simply live through each unremarkable day. However, for this moment here today, I hope you will freely bring forth your own "you" that resides deep within your heart and savor the scent of cherished memories. Additionally, before the performance, engaging explanations will guide you through the pieces, allowing you to fully appreciate them and immerse yourself in the atmosphere.
You!
To you, the memory with many faces—the boundless grace of parents that can never be repaid, siblings who became stars in heaven far too soon, first love both pure and clumsy, its innocence preserved like taxidermy, disfiguring the portrait of our youth...
Part I presents Gershwin's witty "you," composed to share with a loved one yet lived as a solo life; the masterpiece of the century with no substitute for unrequited love, "Romeo & Juliet"; Rachmaninoff, who poured out limitless pain from the sorrow of losing his mentor; and Bizet, who exchanged his passion for composition and his life itself for humanity as "you."
Part II features Grieg's Piano Concerto, his only piano concerto—pure love dedicated to his wife, yet never light but sincere; a Classic that captivates from the first note even without prior knowledge, a work that will continue to be performed as long as the earth rotates. Performed on two pianos, it will present the audience with a truly unique Classical stage experience unlike anything encountered before.
This recital will be my utmost effort to remain as a pianist who, always from the audience's perspective, leaves a vivid mark on a chapter of their lives.
