[PERFORMANCE INTRODUCTION]
Yifan Wu
Pianist Yifan Wu garnered international recognition by winning both first prize and the audience award at the 65th Ferruccio Busoni International Piano Competition, becoming the first Chinese pianist to win this prestigious competition in its history. His performances have earned praise from numerous newspapers and critics who describe his playing as "rooted in Schumannesque spirit, unfolding stories on the keyboard like a poet," leaving a profound impression through his refined tone color reminiscent of starlight infused with quiet poetic brilliance.
Even before the Busoni Competition, Wu quickly established his presence on the international stage by consecutively winning first prize at the Singapore International Piano Competition (2023) and the Jacob Flier International Piano Competition (2024).
As a Steinway Artist, he has performed at major concert halls worldwide including Carnegie Hall in New York, Shenzhen Concert Hall, Wuhan Qintai Concert Hall, and SOTA Recital Hall in Singapore. His performances, characterized by refined tone color, poetic narrative, and deep insight into musical works, have consistently received praise from both audiences and critics. Most notably, he made his debut recital at Shanghai Symphony Orchestra Hall shortly after the Busoni Competition. One critic commended the performance, describing him as "a musician who, based on technical sophistication far beyond his years, has constructed his own persuasive musical world without being confined to the uniform framework of contemporary performance styles," highly praising his musical individuality and originality.
Furthermore, drawing from his deep interest in visual arts and photography, Wu explores subtle connections between music and imagery. This artistic exploration culminated in his selection as an architectural photographer at the International Photography Awards (IPA) in 2022. His works have been exhibited in New York, Budapest, and Shanghai.
Upcoming engagements include invited performances at the MITO Festival in Milan and Turin in 2026, as well as collaborations with the Toscanini Orchestra in Parma and the Haydn Orchestra in Bolzano. He is also scheduled to make his debut at Leipzig Gewandhaus in 2027, expanding his activities to major European venues.
